Author
Abel Ibarra
Abel Ibarra was born in Caracas and attended the School of Letters of the Central University of Venezuela, where he later shared his passion for words as a professor at the School of Social Communication. With his essay “Rulfo y el dios de la memoria“, awarded by Monte Ávila Editores, he explored the depths of language and memory.
Author of the novelized chronicle “Jorge Olavarría, historia de la baja pasión que lo condujo al knock out“, Ibarra dissects with literary precision a key political episode that reveals the roots of his country’s slide into the abysses of authoritarianism. In “Balseros del aire“, he recounts his own exile in the face of the brazenness of totalitarianism, fusing literary genres with a verbal outburst that transports the reader through territories where reality and fiction, the sacred and the profane, are masterfully intertwined.
Based in Miami, Abel Ibarra continues his creative work as a writer, journalist, teacher and producer of cultural programs for television, thus expanding the reach of his voice in the contemporary literature panorama

Yo quiero ser como Ariel
(Available in Spanish versión only)
In a kaleidoscope of emotions, history and poetry, I want to be like Ariel immerses us in the life of Ariel Severino, a man imprisoned between the brilliance of his passions and the shadows of his past. Set in the vibrant Caracas of the sixties, the novel intertwines impossible loves, family secrets and the inexorable passage of time, all against the backdrop of a city that trembles, literally and metaphorically, under the impact of the devastating earthquake of 1967.
At the heart of the plot is Mercedes Chocrón, a woman trapped in her own inner tragedy. Marked by her mother’s abandonment and the struggle to get ahead in a life she never asked for, Mercedes is a moving portrait of strength and hope. Her relationship with Ariel is not only a refuge of passion, but also a space where she tries to piece together the pieces of her broken identity.
With an immersive narrative full of symbolism, Abel Ibarra weaves a story of love, loss and survival, which is intertwined with the vibrations of a city in constant transformation. The true historical references, the complex characters and the poetic prose make this work a tribute to the power of love, memories and the roots that sustain us.
